Course description: The aim of the course is to introduce students to the field of social psychology and to demonstrate its application and role
in the healthcare environment. By considering various aspects of the area of prosocial behavior, conformism, mass psychology,
the students will try to awaken the power of social influence and their actions on patient behavior. It will also show and
explain the processes of stereotyping and prejudice and how they can act on the behaviors of both patients and healthcare
professionals and help students recognize their own mental shortcuts in making key decisions for patients. Knowing the process
in the patient's social environment will help students evaluate how much they affect the patient's health condition. -
Introduction to Social Psychology and Its Importance in Healthcare: Definition of Social Psychology, Social Impact and Human
Social Motives; conformity; mass psychology, information social impact on the health of individuals; the use of social influence
on patients' desirable health behavior - How do we think about the social world: the impact of availability and attitudes
to judgment in relation to patients; self-fulfilling prophecy; errors when concluding the causes of behavior in patients;
the traps of mental strategies and shortcuts in concluding that dangers of such thinking when dealing with other people; the
subjectivity of decision-making in relation to patients and associates - prosocial behavior: causes of prosocial behavior;
altruistic behavior towards the patients; personal differences in prosocial behavior; situational determinants of prosocial
behavior and accountability in auxiliary occupations; fostering prosocial behavior in society - interpersonal relationships:
inter-branch relations at the workplace; conformism in the function of discrimination; attitudes, prejudice, discrimination;
Persuasion, Changing Attitudes, and Changes in Behavior to Prevent Discrimination Behavior towards Patients
